The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 7,300 surgeons, researchers, and allied healthcare professionals worldwide. Their mission is to enhance the ability of cardiothoracic surgeons to provide the highest quality patient care through education, research, and advocacy.

STS has been a long time client of Fuse IQ - beginning back in 2011 when we started with maintenance and support of their site. Over the years, our team provided refreshes of the site, but it became obvious as time progressed that the Drupal 6 site was out of date and unsupported.

We overhauled their entire site and rebuilt it on Drupal 7, creating a smaller, simpler site for their internal data monitoring needs.

Challenge:
Create a digital solution for an organization with broad needs, a specific audience, and a complicated data reporting system.

When it became obvious that STS needed an updated site on a newer platform, we set to work to determine their overarching goals and needs. They needed a site that was user-friendly and intuitive on the front end, while also allowing for a complicated data system that was regularly updated on the back end.

The solution actually consisted of two separate sites that complement each other. We structured their main site with paragraphs in Drupal to make it extremely flexible and easy for administrators to maintain the site, while also keeping continuity and consistency in design elements. Previously, their system was structured in the WYSIWYG editor, which was a massive roadblock to consistent design.

The second site shares the same branding and design elements to create a cohesive user experience but is built for one purpose: public reporting. The Public Reporting site includes data modeling to structure imports which are pulled three sets at a time, every six months.

To ensure that this data was accurately collected and relayed, we revamped the entire data structure from the ground up and customized the General Thoracic Surgery Public Reporting to include charts and additional data points.
