About the Project

ALA American Library Association

Programming Librarian is an initiative of the American Library Association Public Programs Office (ALA) and provides the resources, connections and opportunities libraries need to fill their role as centers of cultural and civic life.

The ALA approached Fuse IQ with the need for a fully redesigned Drupal site that was responsive and 508 Accessibility Compliant.

Build a 508 Accessibility Compliant Site that is Fully Responsive

Part of Programming Librarian’s mission is to be a place for library professionals to share, learn and be inspired to present excellent programming for their communities. They needed a site that showcased these priorities, focused on the needs of their users, while also being accessibility compliant.

When it became obvious that the existing site wasn’t meeting the organization or the user’s, needs, the ALA approached Fuse IQ with an idea to improve the existing site. However, after evaluating the needs and requirements of the organizational website, we recommended building a new site to fully meet the needs and priorities for their digital presence.

The end result is a newly designed and built Drupal 7 site that is fully mobile responsive, 508 accessibility compliant (to WCAG 2.0 Level AA), focused on the user experience, and much easier for staff to manage. To showcase their most important assets, we crafted a powerful tagging and taxonomy filtering option that simplified their significant levels of content into categories, including: News, Program Models, Blogs and Learning Opportunities.

"I came to Fuse IQ with a very vague idea of what I was looking for and even less knowledge about how the website development process works. Tim, Naomi, Ben and the rest of the team were incredibly knowledgeable, patient and responsive to all my questions. They worked with me to figure out my goals for our new site and came up with a fantastic design that has gotten a great response from my organization and our readers. I can’t recommend them highly enough."
